Climate Change

Extreme Weather Events

Changing atmospheric temperatures affects water temperature and has adverse impact on a wide range of aquatic life.

Challenges with Extreme Weather Events

Extreme weather events such as flooding, hurricanes, and storm surge put extra pressure on coastal defenses and adjoining regions. Forecasting and warning services for natural disasters can help save lives but often require installation of flood forecasting and warning systems, along with decision support systems.

EEMS Capabilities

EFDC+ accurately models fresh and saline water interactions in estuaries and river systems allowing users to develop well calibrated models of their systems and evaluate the impacts of predicted climatic changes. In turn, EFDC+ may be modified to support flood forecasting systems in real-time systems.
